CS2023 CS Curricular Guidelines Released

Computer Science Curricular Guidelines (CS2023) were released in January 2024 and are available in the ACM digital library (https://doi.org/10.1145/3664191).

The CS2023 guidelines represent a transformative step forward in the evolution of computer science education. Designed to address the rapidly changing landscape of technology and the growing demand for well-rounded, adaptable computer science professionals, these guidelines emphasize a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to the study of computer science. The updated curriculum focuses on key areas such as artificial intelligence, data science, cybersecurity, software engineering, and the fundamental principles of computer systems. It also underscores the importance of fostering critical thinking, ethical responsibility, and collaborative skills, ensuring that graduates are not only technically proficient but also equipped to navigate the complexities of the modern world.

A key contributor to the development of these guidelines has been Monica Anderson, whose role as a member of the steering committee and chair of the operating systems subtask group has been instrumental in shaping the curriculum’s direction. Monica’s deep expertise in operating systems, coupled with her commitment to advancing computer science education, has helped ensure that the updated guidelines reflect the latest advancements in system-level programming, hardware interactions, and operating system design. Under her leadership, the subtask group successfully identified critical competencies that aspiring computer scientists need to master in today’s technology-driven environment. Her contributions have been essential in striking a balance between theoretical foundations and practical, real-world applications in the operating systems domain.
